Butterfly in Flight - Handcrafted Intarsia Wooden Wall Art

Butterfly in Flight was the first artwork that eventually inspired our Butterfly Collection.

Originally created as a bespoke birthday gift, the composition grew around the butterfly as a symbol of transformation, change and the journey through life. Its flowing botanical forms and asymmetrical movement give the piece a dynamic character — as if the butterfly has only briefly entered the composition before continuing its flight.

The butterfly has long been a symbol of transformation, growth, and the beauty that emerges through life's journey. For this special commission, it was chosen to represent six decades of experiences, achievements, challenges, and new beginnings still waiting ahead.

This piece was inspired by the quiet idea that meaningful change rarely happens overnight. Layer by layer, shape by shape, each individual wooden element comes together into a balanced composition—much like personal growth itself.

Crafted entirely by hand using traditional intarsia and woodcarving techniques, the artwork combines carefully selected hardwoods whose natural colours and grain patterns bring depth and character to every detail. Pine, walnut, linden and cherry were used.

Created as a one-of-a-kind gift, this piece stands as a lasting reminder that personal growth never truly ends and that every stage of life carries its own unique beauty.
