Mini Botanical — Violet. Hand-Carved Japanese Acacia, Preserved Moss and Glass.

Violet has the most spontaneous and organic character in the Mini Botanical Collection.

Its broad, gently modelled petals were carved by hand from Japanese acacia. The naturally expressive grain passes across the flower like fine dark markings, making the structure of the wood an essential part of the composition.

The carving is surrounded by preserved natural moss and held within the same pine hexagonal frame used throughout the collection. A blue-green glass cabochon with touches of white and yellow forms the centre of the flower, introducing a small point of colour and light.

The collection was created from Victoria’s wish to develop a series of miniature floral artworks that could bring genuine hand-carved wood into smaller spaces. Each panel can stand alone, while the shared frame and materials allow several flowers to be arranged together.

Violets are often associated with modesty, faithfulness and understated beauty. Rather than depicting the flower as a delicate botanical illustration, this interpretation gives it a stronger, more sculptural presence.

The original artwork shown in the photographs has been sold. This design is available to order and will be carved individually in our family workshop.

The expressive grain of Japanese acacia varies considerably from one piece of wood to another. For this reason, every new Violet will have its own natural markings while retaining the composition and character of the original design.
